Hey There
Welcome to Safe Haven Trauma Therapy, let me introduce myself...
About Me and My Practice
Hi, I’m Kate Alston—and I believe you have the power to heal, grow, and reclaim your life.
I’m a licensed clinical mental health counselor/therapist (CMHC) specializing in trauma who helps women move from survival mode to empowered living. I specialize in trauma and its co-occurring disorders/symptoms such as depression, anxiety, social anxiety, bipolar, etc.—offering a safe, supportive space for adult women to process their past, reconnect with themselves, and step into the lives they were meant to lead.
While I have my own story of pain and healing, your therapy isn't about me. More importantly, since beginning to practice therapy, I’ve witnessed the incredible resilience of women who’ve been through the darkest seasons and still choose to rise. That transformation—turning pain into power—is at the heart of my practice.
I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am EMDR trained and a Certified Clinical Trauma Treatment Professional. My clinical foundation is rooted in evidence-based approaches, but I also believe that deep, lasting healing goes beyond talk therapy. It requires a holistic approach—one that honors the wisdom of both the mind and the body.
I integrate EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) along with traditional talk therapy into my work to support true, embodied healing. EMDR is a powerful trauma treatment that helps reprocess traumatic memories and reduce the lasting emotional and physical distress they cause that you may be experiencing today. Trauma doesn’t just affect thoughts and emotions—it lives in the body. It can present in body aches/pains, emotional distress, anxiety, affect appetite, sleep, focus, relationships, and beliefs about self or the world etc. When you experience trauma, it often doesn’t stay in the past- it can affect your daily life in many areas. I strongly believe that there is a healthy balance in therapy, addressing the past, present and future while addressing trauma and it’s current impact on life. My goal is to help you release what no longer serves you, reconnect with your inner strength, and build a life that feels grounded, meaningful, and free.

EMDR can be used for trauma, negative beliefs about yourself, anxiety etc. Trauma has many clinical definitions. For my practice and the use of trauma informed care (including EMDR), I define it as any negative or painful event that continues to be disturbing and affects you today. One rule I have in my office is that we do not ever compare traumas. While everyone's trauma may be different in one way or another, it really comes down to how it affects you.
While I am a trauma informed therapist and practice trauma focused therapy, I do not focus solely on trauma because that is not the whole you. I use a client center, eclectic and personalized approach to therapy because every woman’s journey is different. There is no one-size-fits-all path to healing, and I tailor each session to your unique story, values, and goals. I tailor therapy to each individual, meeting you where you are with compassion and curiosity instead of judgment. I like to step into your world, view it as you do and help you navigate it and heal. Whether you’re healing from abuse, unhealthy relationships, anxiety, depression or simply feeling stuck in survival mode—you deserve therapy that sees the full picture of who you are and who you’re becoming.
Outside the therapy space, I’m most at home outdoors—soaking in the sun at the beach, sipping coffee, or spending time with my crème golden retriever, Phoebe (she’s a therapist in her own right!).
You are not broken. You are healing. You are becoming.
You don’t have to do this alone—and you don’t have to stay where you are.
If you’re ready to rise, I’d be honored to walk with you.
